Structure

WP1. Educational scenarios and requirements for virtual learning spaces

The goals of WP1 focus on establishing the baselines for the following WP2-4 in terms of defining the requirements for: a) the learning analytics package and b) the educational scenario authoring environment. Essentially this WP will define and analyse the stakeholders and their requirements for both systems, and evaluate which metrics currently used in virtual learning environments can be captured and utilized for learning analytics.

WP2. User data aggregation, shallow game analytics, and visualizing learning

The goals of WP2 revolve around the collection and presentation of intuitive metrics of learning performance and progress in educational scenarios. To achieve this, the following objectives are set: (a) collect raw data from virtual labs, in T2.1, (b) process raw data into intuitive and relevant learning analytics, in T2.2, (c) create reports regarding these analytics for different stakeholders (learners, educators, management), T2.3.

WP3. Deep game analytics for predicting learning behaviors and delivering appropriate learning content

The primary goal of WP3 is to use historical data collected from the past and current usage of virtual labs in order to (automatically) predict the future learning performance of learners. Reports of the predicted outcomes of future virtual labs, handled in T3.1, will aid educators while designing such labs. Moreover, the predicted learning outcomes of specific course content can be used to automatically adapt the course material, personalizing its delivery to accommodate at-risk learners. This will be handled in T3.2.

WP4. Virtual labs authoring tool

This work-package provides the essential components to enable the achievement of the virtual labs authoring tool. The tool is the core of the project where tutors will be able to author virtual labs easily. The tool is a pipeline of several client-server components connected serially. In this respect, the objectives of WP4 include: a) define the architecture and interface design of the virtual labs authoring tool, b) implement each authoring component, c) ensure a strong match between the components in the pipeline, and d) implement a mechanism for enabling the embedding of game/visual analytics metrics inside the virtual lab project.

WP5. Pilot execution and evaluation

The general objective of this work package is to conduct a number of small-scale pilot versions of virtual labs by using the ENVISAGE assets (i.e., authoring tool, analytics and visualization tools), based on the educational scenarios that were identified in WP1. Towards this direction, this work package will evaluate the effectiveness of the developed technologies with respect to their ability to benefit educational organizations utilizing the ENVISAGE solution towards the optimization of virtual lab design and functionality. The evaluation process will target three separate conditions: 1) The process of using the ENVISAGE authoring tool as a means for building virtual labs; 2) The support offered by the analytics tools in the process of improving virtual labs; and 3) The delivered virtual labs and learning content with respect to their effectiveness to meet the goals and expectations of both teachers and studens in the learning process.

WP6. Dissemination, exploitation and innovation

WP6 aims to foster innovation for exploiting the outcome of ENVISAGE. In this respect, the activities anticipated in this WP are related to the dissemination of the project’s achievements, the exploitation of its results and the mechanisms established to encourage innovation. As detailed in Section 2.2, our approach in this WP will rely on ongoing internal plans documenting the foreseen dissemination and exploitation activities of each partner. These plans will be subsequently used by the partner leading the corresponding task to correct or re-define the adopted strategy in the case where the undertaken activities are not delivering the expected impact. In this way, ENVISAGE is expected to optimally exploit the allocated resources and create the appropriate ground to foster innovation and generate value.

WP7. Management

The goal of WP7 is to plan and undertake all necessary activities for the project’s effective coordination, including: i) manage the partners and resources to reach the general objectives and goals of the project, on time and with the budget allocated; ii) provide internetworking tools for communication between partners; iii) provide a plan for knowledge management, IPRs, and exploitation of results; iv) initiate the project with success by clarifying the project and WP objectives, the monitoring and reporting processes and the working responsibilities to all involved parties; v) set up and administrate the tools, operations and documents for the efficient cooperation and communication among all involved parties; vi) plan and monitor the required activities for the timely and qualitative implementation of the project deliverables within the planned work packages; vii) monitor and control the project progress and resources, ensuring the direct and in-time information flow in every decision making level; viii) identify potential risks and changes (internal or external) and manage them effectively through predefined techniques; ix) ensure that ethical rules and codes are maintained; x) close the project with success by delivering the project final outcomes and setting the basis for their commercialization.
